For most of five decades, SHESA has run on paper, phone calls and goodwill. Registers kept branch by branch, dues tracked in notebooks, decisions carried between chapters by whoever happened to be traveling. It worked because the people made it work. It does not scale to an Association with eleven branches at home, chapters in four countries, and members in every era since 1964.
SHESA Connect is the answer to that. Not a website: a working platform for how the Association is administered.
What changes
- One membership register. Today there is no single answer to the question of how many SHESANs there are. Branch lists, batch lists and chapter lists overlap and contradict each other. SHESA Connect consolidates them into one directory, so membership can be counted, contacted and served.
- Money that can be traced. Dues and contributions move through the platform rather than around it. Every payment produces a receipt, every campaign shows what it has raised, and the Treasurer and Financial Secretary work from the same books as the branches. Financial accountability stops depending on who is asked.
- A professional network that is actually usable. The Association's greatest asset has always been its members' reach — doctors, engineers, lawyers, entrepreneurs, civil servants across four continents. Until now that network existed only in individual memory. The platform makes it searchable, and pairs it with mentorship and career development tools aimed squarely at younger alumni.
- Communication that reaches everyone. Announcements, events, projects and reports published once, visible to every member, in every branch, at the same time.
- Decisions backed by data. Membership growth, participation rates, contribution levels — the Presidential Summit recommended that implementation be monitored through exactly these indicators, and the platform is what produces them.
Built in consultation, not in isolation
SHESA Connect was not designed in a room and handed down.
Yaoundé. 5th May — Past SHESAN Presidents and some senior SHESANS gathered to review the constitution, raising the concerns or requests that shaped the design.
The Presidential Summit. On 27 June 2026, at the WDC Apartment Hotel, representatives of 26 batches and 10 branches sat with six Past Presidents General and the Executive Leadership under the theme "Strengthening SHESA Unity through Strategic Governance, Digital Transformation, and Global Batch Integration." The platform was demonstrated in full — website, financial management, professional networking, mentorship and communication tools and delegates accepted it as a strategic instrument for transparency, inclusivity and member growth.
The Summit went further, designating SHESA Connect a major institutional transformation initiative and recommending the progressive migration of membership databases, communication systems, professional networks, contribution mechanisms and alumni engagement services into the platform. It named SHESA Connect the digital foundation for membership expansion, global engagement, financial sustainability and data-driven decision-making.
The project is handled by a SHESAN-owned company, DIRA (https://diracmr.com) thus ensuring that it is being built with an understanding of the issues to be addressed and a sense of commitment to SHESA.
What it does not change
The platform strengthens the branch structure; it does not replace it. Branches remain the foundation of SHESA's continuity, and the Summit was explicit that batch integration and digital modernisation must reinforce that structure rather than compete with it. Nor does it touch what makes SHESA what it is; the traditions, the anthem, the brotherhood that began in the corridors of school. Those are not administrative problems, and no software improves them.
What happens next
SHESA Connect is launched formally at the AGM 2026 gala in Yaoundé on 14 November, ahead of the migration of membership and financial systems through 2027.
